Piermont Library 10th Anniversary Celebration

Piermont Library 10th Anniversary Celebration

The Dennis P. McHugh Piermont Public Library will hold a 10th Anniversary Celebration on Sunday, April 9, 2017, 12 - 5 pm, to mark its first decade in the McHugh building. The library, chartered in 1896, opened the doors to its newly built Flywheel Park location on a bright and brisk Hudson Valley day in March 2007.

Just what has taken place in that charming yellow building by the river since that day? Come find out. Festivities will include live music by the Old No. 7 Band, food trucks, tech demos, children's art, stories & crafts, library history & trivia, grounds tours, mini golf in the stacks, an "edible books" baking contest, and more. Our gallery space will feature a brief history of how the library came to be, how the current building got its name, and how the institution continues to evolve as a community hub.

As part of the 10th Anniversary Celebration, the library is offering two excellent naming opportunities for donors. First, there will be a 10th Anniversary Fundraising Campaign with a generous Matching Challenge. Donations to the 10th Anniversary Fund will be matched by longtime supporters Dale and Ed Nelson up to the first $5,000 raised. This is a chance to make your contribution to the library go twice as far. Donors who give $250 or more will have their names engraved on a 10th Anniversary Wall plaque. Double your impact and leave a lasting declaration of your support by giving to the 10th Anniversary Fund.

The second naming opportunity comes in the form of a special 10th Anniversary Path of engraved bricks. This new walkway will connect the bench on the front lawn to the sidewalk that leads to the rain garden. This is a unique opportunity to commemorate your loved ones while contributing to your library. Donate just $200, a discounted rate from the front Path of Friends, to inscribe one line on a brick.

All contributions are tax deductible. Donations to the 10th Anniversary Fund and Path will support the library's stated mission and future maintenance of a now aging and well-used building. Visit the library for donation forms, or visit: http://piermontlibrary.org/events/10th-anniversary-celebration/

Help keep your charming yellow library robust for the next 10 years and beyond.

Baking Contest details

The "Edible Books" Baking Contest will be held during the 10th Anniversary Celebration. What is an "edible books" contest and how do you participate? Glad you asked!

Decorate a food item, usually a dessert, based on a book title, cover, character, etc. Take a look at our submission form or search Pinterest for some examples of booky cookies, poetic pastries, sci-fi pies, mysterious meringues and such to get your creative juices flowing… and baking!

Instructions: Submit your entry form by March 31st and bring your baked goods on April 9th for judging. Judging will be based on the visual presentation of your piece. Entries will not be tasted until after a winner is chosen.

Timeline on Sunday, April 9th:

·         11:30 a.m.: Bring your entry to the library for setup.

·         12 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. Voting will be open to attendees of the 10th Anniversary  Celebration. Everyone gets one vote.

·         4 p.m. A winner will be announced, and then the best part, everyone gets to "eat your words" and taste all the "edible book" creations.

Unveiling! Piermont Flywheel Memorial Plaque

Flywheel: (noun) A heavy-rimmed rotating wheel that uses its momentum to minimize speed variation in a machine.

The Village of Piermont was once home to over 1,300 people who worked at the Papermill. Piermont’s industrial past will be memorialized in the Flywheel Park in Piermont, NY. Celebrate with us for the commemoration on Sunday, November 6 at noon. Be there for the unveiling of our memorial plaque honoring those who lived and worked in Piermont.

Come see the words and images supplied by Bob Samuels and the Piermont Historic Society. This project has been fully funded by three of Piermont’s wonderful nonprofit groups: The Piermont Civic Association, The Piermont Chamber of Commerce, and the Piermont Historical Society with special thanks to the Piermont Village Board for approving the DPW installation work.

Fire Department Fundraiser at Tallman Pool Club

THE TALLMAN POOL & BEACH CLUB WILL HOST A PIERMONT FIRE DEPARTMENT FUNDRAISER ON OCTOBER 8TH

NEW YORK, NY (September 12, 2016) – The Tallman Pool & Beach Club will host a fundraiser for the Piermont Fire Department’s High Angle Rescue Team, sponsored by Procida Funding & Advisors on Saturday, October 8th.   The special evening will include a pig roast buffet from NoCo Grill, live music, 50/50 raffle and cash bar.  Tickets for the event will be sold at the door for $25 and additional donations to the cause are welcome.

The Piermont Fire Department’s High Angle Rescue Team was founded in 1999 to provide additional means to get people out of harm's way.  The majority of the equipment that the team uses is still dated from the time the team was created 17 years ago. To ensure the safety of the rescuers and people that are in need, equipment needs to be replaced due to age and wear. Due to the 2% tax cap budget, concessions need to be made.

“This fundraiser will provide this specialized team with new ropes, rescue devices and personal protective equipment so the Piermont Fire Department can help keep our community safe,” said Procida Funding & Advisors CEO Billy Procida who was responsible for the $750,000 facelift that the Tallman Beach & Pool Club received in advance of the 2016 summer season.

The Tallman Beach & Pool Club’s state-of-the-art facility will for private events through the end of October.  For more information, please visit https://tallmanpoolclub.com/ or call 845-422-7126.
